GLO overwhelm Breeze after dominant start

The Wisconsin GLO treated their home fans to a spectacular show on both ends of the court, scoring the first 31 points of the game on the way to a 97-26 victory over the Chicago Breeze in a matchup of previously unbeaten teams Saturday, June 8 at Menominee Nation Arena in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The GLO (5-0) built a 29-0 lead after the first quarter and owned a 31-0 advantage before the Breeze got on the scoreboard at the 6:47 mark of the second period. The game-opening onslaught featured 10 different scorers and a variety of sensational passes as the GLO blitzed the Breeze for 20 points during the first five minutes.

The Breeze (1-1) missed each of their 15 field goal attempts and committed seven turnovers in the first quarter while the GLO shot 12-for-19 from the floor and created five steals during the opening 10 minutes. Wisconsin went on to extend its cushion to 44-5 late in the second quarter and 81-19 early in the final period.

All 12 GLO players in uniform scored at least two points and saw at least seven minutes of action as Wisconsin shot 51.4 percent from the floor while holding the Breeze to a .147 field goal percentage and forcing 31 turnovers. The GLO, who collected 22 steals and dished out 24 assists on 36 made field goals, had a 60-36 rebounding advantage.

Angela Rodriguez had a team-leading six assists.

Allie LeClaire went 9-for-11 from the field and led all players with 22 points for the GLO.

Jessica Lindstrom added 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for her first double-double with the GLO, who also received 15 points from Taylor Wurtz, nine points and five rebounds from Kelly Moten, and nine points and a game-best five steals from Julie Wojta in her GLO debut.

The GLO’s Angela Rodriguez chipped in six points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals off the bench while Lauren Johnson had six points, and Jolene Anderson had four points, four rebounds and four steals.

Janel McCarville contributed three points, six rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals in just 12 minutes during her first game with the GLO.

Jessica Lindstrom notched a double-double.

Shante Glenn paced Chicago with 14 points, seven rebounds, two assists and five steals. The other 10 Breeze players shot a combined 4-for-50 from the field.

Chicago, last year’s runner-up in the Global Women’s Basketball Association, won its season opener by a 46-36 score June 1 in Chicago. This season the Breeze are competing in the Independent Professional Women’s Basketball League.

The GLO return to league play next Saturday, June 15 at the St. Louis Surge. Wisconsin (2-0 GWBA) defeated the Surge (1-1, 1-1 GWBA), 92-66, during the league opener May 18 in Oshkosh.
